Fazenda Pedra Preta has been cultivating coffee for over a century, spanning five generations of the Capistrano Ferreira family. Located in the heart of Serra da Mantiqueira in Minas Gerais, Brazil, the farm sits between two preserved forests rich with native wildlife, including toucans, howler monkeys, ocelots and maned wolves. It also represents one of the region’s largest preservation areas, reflecting the family’s deep commitment to the land.
Building on generations of knowledge, brothers Eduardo and Otávio Ferreira are leading the farm into a new era. Combining traditional practices with Eduardo’s research in agroforestry, they have become pioneers in regenerative coffee farming—focused not just on sustainability, but on actively restoring ecosystems.
Their pilot project, Tropicália, is a standout example of this approach. Through intercropping, they’ve created a scalable, multi-layered ecosystem where guapuruvu trees provide shade, sequester CO₂ and replenish soil nutrients. Between the coffee rows, rotating flowering species protect the soil, reduce erosion, provide natural fertiliser and support pollinators. A thriving diversity of insects is also encouraged to naturally manage pests and disease. Since 2019, this regenerative model has transformed the farm from producing small specialty lots into exporting full container volumes, establishing one of Brazil’s first agroforestry coffee systems.
Produced using a natural process that takes full advantage of the region’s climate and altitude, this coffee is a true reflection of its environment. The result in the cup is something truly special. The Regen Grown Fazenda Pedra Preta Acaia opens with bright, crisp stone fruit and lemon acidity, carrying through to a smooth, buttery body layered with caramel, cashew, and soft florals. In short, slurpadacious!
