Their journey into coffee exports began in 1994, following the liberalisation of exports by the Indian government. Since then, Ratnagiri Estate has been exporting its coffees to markets in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Japan and the Middle East. Today, they cater to the specialty coffee market worldwide, producing high-quality processed coffees with distinct flavour profiles.
At Ratnagiri, their focus is unwavering: to produce high-quality, high-end specialty coffees with distinct flavour profiles. Since 2015, they have been on a transformative journey, gradually shifting their entire production from commercial and entry-level specialty to higher and highest specialty coffee. Today, they are proud to say that their production is almost entirely dedicated to specialty coffee.
They believe this approach is the only sustainable path for the long run. Their success is rooted in innovation and a scientific foundation, which underpin their entire process. This commitment ensures they consistently deliver exceptional coffee, setting new standards in the industry and showcasing the true potential of Indian specialty coffee.
Founders – Ashok Patre
Ratnagiri Estate story began in 1927, when Ashok Patre’s grandfather, Patre K Shivappaiya, acquired the land and planted the first coffee seeds in 1929. The first harvest followed in 1934, beginning a family legacy that has continued for generations.
In 1989, Ashok took over the estate, dedicating the following years to replanting with new varietals and nurturing the young plants. By 2016, Ratnagiri Estate had ventured into specialty coffee, producing its first honey-processed and natural coffees.
Today, the estate continues to honour its heritage while embracing innovation, producing specialty coffees with a focus on quality, passion and sustainability.
